Why The Journey?

The Christian Story is the good, true, and beautiful story of our world. It is the story that fulfills the deepest longings of the human heart for meaning, purpose, and identity. In this story we learn about who we are, what our problem is, where we’re going, and most importantly, who the author of the story is. In this story we learn that humanity is made in the image of God, to represent Him according to His perfect character. We learn that we are sinful and fallen, separating us from our Creator. And we learn that God has set in motion a plan to save us from our sin through the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. And we learn that God has given us a mission to share this Good News with the world while we wait for Him to establish His Kingdom. This is our story. The true story of the whole world.

It is the story that our culture is quickly forgetting.

In its place, there are new stories being told. The most popular is often called “post-Christian” or "postmodern." This new secular story says we are nothing but matter. Truth only exists in the mind. There is no objectively true meaning or purpose to our existence, and it resolves that we must create our own path to happiness. We are free, but our lives are devoid of transcendence. This new story is tragic. It's ending is brute and unhappy. And it is detached from reality. As a result, our culture is disenchanted.

As we reflected on Houston being caught in this cultural upheaval, we began to ask, "How do you reach a city that has lost touch with the Christian Story? How do you reach a generation who sees Christianity as antiquated, irrelevant, or even oppressive?" We realized, a new church must be planted, one specifically designed to awaken a post-Christian generation to the wonder of the story from which all good stories derive. And that’s when it dawned on us: invite them on a Journey!

We are inviting the disenchanted on a Journey with us to discover the truth, goodness, and beauty of the Christian Story. With the Bible as our guide and fellow travelers by our side we embark together on trails ancient, tried, and well worn, learning from the wisdom of those who have gone before us, and overcoming new obstacles together as we find our place in the true story of the world. And as we make our way along this Journey, our prayer is the disenchanted of Houston would find that the Christian Story is not only true, but satisfying to the deep longings of the human heart and be compelled to invite others to journey with us.

This is a worthy journey. It will help us make sense of the world, find meaning and purpose, and give us a people to journey with. More importantly, it is the Journey we were made for.

Come, join us on The Journey.
